Academic Program Coordinator

​

Meet Kristene Baldwin, she is your key resource for all your questions about our program. She is your go-to resource for academic concerns, questions about your classwork, and college/career planning.  Kristene supports you from the moment you enter our program through graduation.

Experience

​

Kristene earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Connecticut at Storrs. Currently, Kristene is working on a Doctorate in Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership at Northeastern University. 

 

She holds the following teaching credentials: CA Professional Clear Multiple Subject, NCLB Qualified; CA Supplemental Authorization in English; CA Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development Certification (CLAD); and NJ Standard Certification, Elementary School Teacher. Kristene is also trained in Reading Recovery, GATE, Gifted and Talented, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, Cycle of Inquiry, ESL, and Montessori Education. She is a certified trainer for Six Traits +1 Writing, Responsive Classroom, and SAT/PSAT/Campus Bound prep. She is trained to coach: track, volleyball, and soccer.

 

Kristene joined Calvert in 2015 with more than ten years of teaching experience in grades 4-12 and utilizes this experience to provide academic coaching support for the Calvert Academy high school. Kristene resides in the Northeastern United States with her husband, three children, and dog. 

Social Studies Staff

Dr. Elizabeth Davis

Meet Elizabeth Davis, your social studies teacher.

​

Experience

Elizabeth Davis earned her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Vassar College. Additionally, she holds an MA in Education from Claremont Graduate University, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Colorado.  Dr. Davis holds a valid teaching certificate. 

​

She comes to Calvert from Colorado where she is licensed in Language Arts, Social Studies. She also holds a current K-12 Gifted and Talented Specialist License, as well as a K-12 Principal and Superintendent's license. 

 

She knows Calvert from the inside out as her adult children were "Calvert Kids" and she served as the founding principal at Colorado Calvert Academy State Charter School.  

​

When she is not actively working with her students, she is reading historical fiction, playing with her grandchildren, and attending concerts  Elizabeth is delighted to be a part of the Calvert faculty and looks forward to seeing each of her students grow and learn in a 21st century environment.

Robert Kerr

Meet Robert Kerr, your social studies teacher.

​

​

Experience:

 

Mr. Kerr received his Bachelor's degree in History from Worcester State College and his Master's degree in Educational Leadership from American International College. He has taught students from kindergarten to 12th grade over the past 20 years. He currently is an Assistant Principal at an International Baccalaureate high school in Massachusetts. He holds valid certifications in both History and Administration. 

 

He is an avid sports fan and played college football at Worcester State. He loves music and has played guitar for over 20 years. He understands the importance of becoming a well rounded student. 

 

This is his first year with Calvert Academy and he is looking forward to working with students from other parts of the country.

ELA Staff

Colleen Crisan

 
Meet Colleen Crisan, your ELA teacher.

 

Experience

​

Mrs. Crisan graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters of Education in Secondary English Education.  Mrs. Crisan holds a valid teaching certificate. 

 

She has been teaching English for thirteen years and enjoys helping students reach their full potentials by becoming independent and critical thinkers.

​

Mrs. Crisan lives in sunny South Florida with her husband and 4 year-old son.

Amy Collins

 

Meet Amy Collins your ELA teacher.

​

Experience

 

Mrs. Collins has a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and English from University of Wisconsin La Crosse as well as a Master’s Degree in History from University of Colorado.

 

Mrs. Collins holds a valid teaching certificate.  She has certifications in both ELA and Social Studies.  Mrs. Collins has been teaching for 20 years now, the last six of those as an online instructor with Calvert.

​

Aside from getting to know students in the classroom, she loves mentoring students through clubs and activities like drama, photography, and newspaper. 

 

When not teaching, she spends time with her family. They all love hiking through the woods and trails of Wisconsin, reading books, and walking down to the local gelato shop for a treat.

Math Staff

Shae Barnaby (Ferst)

Meet Ms. Shae Barnaby, previously Ferst, your Math and Physics teacher.

 

Experience

 

Mrs. Barnaby was born and raised in Ticonderoga, NY in the Adirondacks. She received her Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from University of Rochester and Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University. She worked as an Engineer with Pitney Bowes in Shelton, CT obtaining 3 patents. She resigned from Pitney Bowes to start her family and homeschool her three children with Calvert Education while residing in Ewa Beach, HI. 

 

When moving to Northeast PA, she obtained her Masters in Education and Teaching Certification for Secondary Mathematics and Physics from Drexel University. Mrs. Barnaby holds a valid teaching certificate. 

 

She has been teaching Math & Physics for 5 years. Mrs. Barnaby is passionate about teaching at Calvert Education and loves to hear from her students!

Jessica Shovan 

 
Meet Jessica Shovan, your Math teacher.

 

​Experience

​Ms. Shovan is a graduate of Adrian College, in Michigan, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Ms. Shovan holds a valid teaching certificate.  

 

During her college years, she was involved in various activities including band, cheerleading, bowling, and Chi Omega.  She moved from Michigan to Florida in 2012 and has been teaching math and coaching softball and bowling for 5 years.  She is excited for the opportunity to work and connect with you and the families at Calvert!

Suzanne Scheffler

 
Meet Suzanne Scheffler, your Math teacher.

​Experience

After earning her BS and MA in Elementary Education from the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut, Mrs. Scheffler decided to continue her education and she obtained her Sixth Year Degree in Educational Technology, also from the University of Connecticut. While earning her sixth year, she taught kindergarten for one year at Silver Lane Elementary School in East Hartford, CT and interned at Mystic Aquarium to create an online interactive tutorial for employees to learn about their two new exhibits, one of which involved working directly with Robert Ballard. She then taught first grade at Birch Grove Elementary School for three years until my oldest son was born.  Mrs. Scheffler holds a valid teaching certificate.

In order to care for her son during the day, she decided to leave her first grade position in Tolland and she began teaching mathematics and computer skills courses at Vernon Regional Adult Based Education. This new career path inspired her to return to school once more in order to obtain her certification in Secondary Mathematics. She was quickly given a job as an online mentor for a students, which eventually led to being the Online Coordinator for VRABE and working in conjunction with Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium. She eventually began teaching PreAlgebra and Algebra for CTDLC while also managing VRABE's credit diploma program and developing courses via Odysseyware for their blended learning program. She also headed their Financial Literacy, STEM, and 21st Century Skills grant.

In 2013 she accepted a contract with Vschoolz, which led to a variety of course building opportunities including kindergarten math, GED, Music Appreciation, and College and Career Readiness Skills in mathematics. She has contracted for a number of companies as a teacher and content developer including K12, Pearson, LearnBop, Calvert, Michigan Virtual University, and Virtual Schools of Excellence. I also started publishing a web based math series starring my Boston Terrier, Peaches, for Learning Bird. 

She loves teaching for Calvert and meeting so many wonderful students.    

Science Staff

Joyce Reitor

 
Meet Joyce Reitor, your science teacher

 

​Experience

​

Mrs. Reitor received a BS in Education with a Minor in Chemistry from University of Central Florida and a Master's in Distance Education and e-Learning from University of Maryland University College.  She is currently working on her EdS in Leadership from Liberty University. Mrs. Reitor holds a valid teaching certificate. 

 

She has been teaching since 2000; 9 years in the traditional classroom and 8 online. During those years she has taught many facets of science including Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Physical Science, and Forensic Science.   She also held the position of Science Department Chair at Liberty High School from 2007-2009. 

Shannon Kissinger

Meet Shannon Kissinger, your science teacher.

 

​Experience

Shannon Kissinger is from Portsmouth RI (near Newport).  She grew up as a military child and still loves travelling. In the future she hopes to visit the Galapagos! She enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, trying to focus on nutrition and exercise on a daily basis.  She loves being a mother to her 10-year-old daughter, Audra and 1-year old son, Kaidan.   

​

As far as science is concerned, she loves all disciplines!  She believes it is extremely important that all individuals are able to understand the biology and chemistry that provides us and our future generations to thrive. 

​

She has a dual bachelor’s in biology and Chemistry from Winthrop University. She has a dual Masters: an MS in Biology and an MAT.  She holds a valid teaching certificate. She is also educated to teach Biology courses at the collegiate level.

 

 She has had four years experience educating students from the middle school level to the collegiate level.  At the K-12 level she has taught Biology, Chemistry (including AP and IB), Environmental Science and created a new curriculum, STEAM Science.

 

 At the collegiate level, she has worked as a professor in Biology at York Technical College and Winthrop University.  She also has experience in lab research at the collegiate level.

​

She loves trying new things. She enjoys kayaking, hiking, obstacle course races, scuba diving, and riding my motorcycle.  In the near future she would love to skydive!  She loves supporting her sports teams: Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox!

Angela Hughes

 
Meet Ms. Hughes your Spanish teacher.

​

Ms. Hughes earned her Bachelors in Spanish and Bilingual Education from Penn State. She also earned her Masters of Education in Teaching Special Education from Notre Dame of MD.  Ms. Hughes holds a valid teaching certificate.

Heather Boyle

 
Meet Heather Boyle, your French teacher.

​​Experience

​

Ms. Boyle earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Penn State.  She then completed her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Clarion University. Ms. Boyle holds a valid teaching certificate. 

​

She has been teaching since 2001 and has been with Calvert since 2015.  She has taught High School French and Middle School English. 

Kathryn Clive

 
Meet Kathryn Clive, your elective's teacher

 

Experience

​

Katie Clive attended Assumption College in Worcester, MA and has a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. She moved to Port St Lucie in 2004 where she began her teaching career. She hold a valid teaching certificate. 

 

She has been teaching high school PE  for 13 years. Her virtual teaching career with Calvert started in 2016.

Louise Jackson

 
Meet Louise Jackson, your electives teacher.

Experience

​

Louise Jackson earned both a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Business Education from the University of Kentucky. In addition, she earned her Master's Degree in Business Education/Curriculum and a Distance Learning Certificate from University of Kentucky. She has earned her Rank I + 30 in Vocational Education - Supervision and Leadership from University of Kentucky. She also holds her 18 hours CIS from Morehead State University. Ms. Jackson hold a valid teaching certificate. 

​

She taught for 28 years in Harrison County ATC in Harrison County, Kentucky, from which she retired in 2015. She has a total of 31 years working in education as a teacher.

Mr. Keaney

 
Meet Mr. Keaney, your electives teacher

 

Experience

​

Mr. Keaney attended Indian River State College for 2 years. After IRSC he transferred to the University of South Florida. Where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 2014. He holds a valid teaching certificate.

​

After graduating from USF Mr. Keaney moved to Fort Myers. It was at that time that he started his education career. He began as a para professional for an elementary physical education program for 1 year. The next year he was offered a position as a middle school physical education teacher at Dan McCarty middle school in Fort Pierce. After one year at that school he was offered a position at Fort Pierce Central High School. He is currently teaching HOPE and team sports at FPC. He is also a part of the Fort Pierce Central baseball program as a head JV coach. This is his second year at FPC. He joined Calvert in January 2018.
